The Ministry of Sports is presently developing the National Sports Policy for St. Kitts and Nevis
which will be concluded towards the ending of May 2020.
Mr. Mark Mungal, Director of the Caribbean Sport Development Agency from Trinidad has been
contracted to coordinate the initiative.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will be providing
funding for the venture, which will feature discussions with targeted groups and individuals
across the federation.
Mr. Mungal, in his capacity as consultant, will be hosting these discussions from March 4 th to
March 13 th , 2020. He will return for a second visit in April upon the completion of the first draft
to engage in further deliberations towards the competition of the final policy in May. These
discussions will allow for a holistic picture of the national sports landscape and charting the way
forward in sports for St. Kitts and Nevis.
A National Sports Advisory Committee has also been established to work along with Mungal to
guarantee that there is enough guidance and strong diversity to ensure a well-developed
National Sports Policy.
The consultant will make a courtesy call to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sports,
Education, Youth and Culture Hon. Shawn Richards on March 4 th to outline the objectives for
the National Sports Policy. After this meeting further information will be shared with the
general public so that the federation can be well informed of the vision going forward.
