Basseterre, St. Kitts. March 11, 2020. – Consultant Mark Mungal says that it makes no sense for
the National Sports Policy to look good, to have great content but be placed on a shelf.
He made his comment while having extensive discussions with coaches and staff of the
Department of Sports at their head office, on Victoria Road, on March 10, in relation to the
implementation of the National Sports Policy.
“We must have something that makes sense for all stakeholders in St. Kitts and Nevis but also
meets a global standard. We also need to be realistic, taking into consideration our limitations
and ensure that we remain grounded as we develop a policy that is solid but allows for
adjustments,” Mungal emphasized.
The consultant’s full morning discussions with the Department of Sports on St. Kitts was
preceded by similar discussions with the coaches and staff of the sister department in Nevis, on
March 9.
Additionally, Mungal had high level talks with a top representative from the St. Kitts and Nevis
Olympic Committee (SKNOC) on Friday last, March 6.
During those discussions, the National Olympic Committee expressed its interest in the
implementation of the National Sports Policy and also reaffirmed its support for national
sporting federations and associations.
