Kittitian cricketer Jahzara Claxton produced two impressive performances as the West Indies Women recorded consecutive eight-wicket victories over Zimbabwe Women in Harare, securing an unassailable 2–0 lead in the T20 International series.
The 20-year-old all-rounder played a decisive role in both matches, claiming five wickets for just 30 runs across the two encounters while also contributing an unbeaten 31 with the bat in the opening contest.
Player-of-the-Match Performance in Series Opener
In the first T20I at the Takashinga Sports Club on Saturday, 3 October, Claxton delivered an excellent all-round performance to guide the West Indies Women to a comfortable eight-wicket victory.
After Zimbabwe were sent in to bat, Claxton claimed two wickets for 16 runs during a disciplined spell of pace bowling. Her contribution helped restrict the hosts to 97 for nine from their allotted 20 overs.
Karishma Ramharack led the West Indies bowling attack with three wickets for 17 runs, while Afy Fletcher supported with two for 18.
Claxton was then promoted to open the batting and responded with an assured unbeaten innings of 31 from 37 deliveries, striking four boundaries.
She initially shared a rapid 38-run opening partnership with 17-year-old Eboni Brathwaite, who struck 23 from 14 balls. Claxton then combined with Realeanna Grimmond for a 59-run second-wicket partnership that placed the West Indies firmly in control.
Grimmond top-scored with 34 from 25 deliveries before she was dismissed with the scores level. Stafanie Taylor completed the victory from the following delivery as the West Indies reached 98 for two in 12.5 overs, winning with 43 balls remaining.
Claxton was named Player of the Match for her important contributions with both bat and ball.
Claxton Claims Three Wickets in Second T20I
Claxton continued her impressive form in the second T20I, producing outstanding bowling figures of three wickets for 14 runs.
Zimbabwe’s top order provided a steady platform, but Claxton helped prevent the hosts from building a larger total. She first trapped Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano lbw before returning during the latter stages of the innings to finish with three wickets.
Zimbabwe eventually reached 106 for seven from their 20 overs.
The West Indies made light work of the 107-run target, with Brathwaite delivering an explosive innings of 57 from just 23 balls. Her knock included six sixes and three fours and helped propel the Caribbean side to 69 for two by the end of the powerplay.
Grimmond and Stafanie Taylor then guided the West Indies to 108 for two, completing another eight-wicket victory with 65 deliveries remaining.
The victory gave the West Indies Women an unassailable 2–0 lead in the series.
A Proud Moment for St. Kitts and Nevis
Claxton’s performances represent another proud moment for cricket in St. Kitts and Nevis. Her ability to contribute under pressure with both bat and ball has made her an important part of the West Indies squad during the tour.
Across the opening two matches, the Kittitian all-rounder recorded combined bowling figures of five wickets for 30 runs and produced an unbeaten 31 in her opportunity at the top of the batting order.
Her strong start to the series further underlines her development as one of the Federation’s promising young sporting talents and her growing influence on the international stage.
